The
living water
In John 4 we find Jesus speaking to a
Samaritan woman. After he first asked her for water, in
verse 10 he said:
John 4:10
"Jesus answered and said to her, "If you knew
the gift of God, and who it is who says to you,
"Give me a drink," you would have asked Him,
and He would have given you living water.""
And the Lord continues:
John 4:13-14
"Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but
whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will
never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will
become in him a fountain of water springing up into
everlasting life."
Whoever drinks of the water the Lord gives
will never be thirsty. There is no other water
appropriate to satisfy our thirstiness for life than the
water the Lord gives. Who is thirsty for life? Who has
been tired by the wilderness of this world? The Lord has
good news for him. He, the captain of life, has the
living water. If He is put in the midst of one's heart,
not only the water He gives will rid him of thirstiness
but will also make him "a fountain of water
springing up into everlasting life"
"He who comes to me shall
never hunger, and he who believes in me shall never
thirst" (John 6:35)
